Reusing or Donating

Before you set your materials out for collection, please reuse or donate them. Here are some sources for further information about donation and reuse:

Goodwill Industrieswww.eastbaygoodwill.org
Salvation Armywww.salvationarmyusa.org or call 1-800-95-TRUCK to schedule a pick-up.

Please Follow these Guidelines:

  1. A 2-Cubic Yard Container: Fill this with solid waste and other small recyclable and non-recyclable materials to top water level (lid must fully close). Please help keep reusable and recyclable items clean by bagging your non recyclable waste.
  2. Bulky Items: You may set out up to 3 bulky items for collection including, but not limited to any appliances or pieces of furniture too large to place in a 2-cubic yard container. Please note: Refrigerator doors need to be removed or taped shut.
  3. Electronic Scrap: You may substitute one electronic scrap item for 1 of the 3 bulky items. Computers, printers, television sets, and VCR’s are examples of electronic scrap items. Please note: Electronic scrap should be placed at the curb next to the 2-cubic yard bin. Small e-scrap can be placed in a discardable (i.e. cardboard) container at the curb next to the container.
  4. Latex Paint/Household Batteries: ACI will accept latex paint and household batteries. Paint must be in a tightly closed original can and clearly labeled. Batteries must be contained separately in a plastic bag. For lithium batteries, please tape terminals. Please set paint and batteries next to container, but not in the gutter, for collection.

Unacceptable Materials:
  • Any single item weighing over 75 pounds among the 2 cubic yards of waste
  • Wood longer than 5 feet
  • Rocks, dirt, cement, sod, construction and demolition material, and other similar debris
  • Boxes or bags with miscellaneous loose materials placed outside the container will not be accepted

  • Household hazardous waste, hazardous waste, radioactive material, and toxic materials such as paint thinner, gasoline, pesticides, drain cleaners, non-latex paints, wood staining products, anti freeze, solvents, fluorescent bulbs, ammunition, pool chemicals, and explosives.

If any unacceptable material is found curbside or in the container, it will be tagged and placed on your property. It is the resident’s responsibility to arrange for proper disposal.

Collection Procedure:

  1. A 2-Cubic Yard Container will be delivered on your regular service day and removed one week later. Be sure it is at the curb by 5:00 AM for collection.
  2. Place all bulky items, and electronic scrap on the mow strip if at all possible. Contain smaller items in a disposable box or bag.
  3. Please move vehicles away from container for access.

ACI will make every effort to redistribute materials for reuse as its first option. If your materials cannot be reused, recycling will be the next desirable alternative. Disposal of your materials to the landfill will be a last resort.
